Avoid a £100 Late-Filing Penalty from HMRC

Over 10 million taxpayers have filed their self-assessment tax return for the 2020/21 tax year but there are still a further 1.5 million people yet to do so. Those who have not filed their self-assessment need to have it completed by 28th of February in order to avoid a £100 penalty for late filing.

This £100 fine usually comes into play after the official deadline of the 31st of January but was put back by four weeks with HMRC allowing people extra time due to ongoing pandemic-related issues.

In addition to this charge, daily penalties of £10 will start to accrue from the 1st of May for returns which are yet to be filed.
